Maybe I should have labeled my blog Travel, Food and Music so that I would have travel for mind, food for body and music for soul. I know my life has centered around creating delicious and colourful foods, definitely made a career out of making music and I always dreamt of travelling.
I’m on this trip of a lifetime at this moment. I have always dreamed about traveling to Italy to experience the country’s rich culture that would give me that true mind, body and soul experience.
I started off this week very early early Monday morning by flying to Toronto from Sydney to begin this journey. I wanted to spend a day or two in Hamilton with my brother and his partner Ana, just to get myself psyched for this 20 day trip to Italy. When I arrived, they told me that my day could be a time for me to chill and zone out or in on the things I needed to do to get ready as I wasn’t totally ready yet. I did just that. They told me they were going to start my vacation with a very special dining experience. They were making a goats meat stew. Served with fresh Swiss chard. It smelled absolutely glorious. And on top of that Ana makes the best creme caramel for me and she knows it’s my favourite. Well that topped off the meal.
So that is how my dream vacation began. Everything went perfect….getting to the airport, getting everything checked in OK, well except I didn’t get much sleep on the airplane to Rome as it was an overnight flight…..and my headphones didn’t work on my seat. But my friend met me right there when I got my baggage and the trip has been beyond my imagination so far.
So far in the four days I traveled from the Rome airport up through to Umbria where I have been staying near Fabro, I’ve been to Orvieto and today to Cortona. Mostly, my food and travel have been highlighted but finally today I heard an incredible accordion player serenade me while I had this glorious pasta with porcini mushrooms and a caprese salad for lunch in a cafe just off the main square in Cortona. Oh and I bought a purse. I will stop there for now.
